Jenna Winocur was born in Denver, CO in 1998. She graduated from Slavens K-8 in 2013, and she will be graduating from Cherry Creek High School in spring 2017. She will be attending Cornell University in the fall. Jenna became interested in African education in fourth grade when she studied the country of Cameroon. Ever since Jenna has written extensively about Africa and became passionate about the subject of education. She became a Board Member for the GEC in 2011. For over 3 years, Jenna was a reporter for Scholastic Kids Press Corp and covered a variety of news stories including the Presidential Debate, interviewing the director of the U.N about the Haiti earthquake, and an article about the GEC organization. In order to write the article about GEC’s impact on Ghanaian students, she was fortunate enough to have met one of the first students to receive funding from the GEC, William Yakah. She and William formed a close bond during the interview and they have kept in touch ever since. She helped give William the opportunity to continue his higher education at Michigan State. He never fails to inspire her. When Jenna is not at school you can find her doing fundraisers for the GEC, drawing, competing in DECA, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), going to Geneva Glen Camp, or texting William!
